Russian Sports Betting

Sports betting is legal and regulated in Russia, both online and land-based. Licensed operators can offer sports betting services, but they must comply with stringent regulations. The first betting shops opened in the capital after the fall of Communism and spread rapidly through the country.

New laws in 2007 raised capitalization requirements 100 million rubles, which forced many bookmakers to close. In February 2016, the Ministry of Finance suggested it was considering increasing the monthly fee bookmakers pay for each betting shop they operate from 7,000 rubles per month to 70,000 rubles per month. However, no changes in gambling tax policy had been made as of yet.
